Tótem<br> Hotel - Casacuberta

This hotel generates
emotions, feelings,
atmospheres.
But thinking of
the profitability,
the conservation
and the durability.
That is what makes
it all become real.

FAÇADE AND ENTRANCE OF
THE TÓTEM HOTEL

A residencial building from the early 20th century, in part protected, which transforms into a hotel. How does this heritage coexist with a new project? By looking at the building’s origins and taking them to contemporaneity. That conjunction between the roots and universality is always present.

One of those protected and restored was the staircase. It is made of pinewood from Soria, it is already 100 years, but it looks impeccable. We treated it with a lot of affection, with no chemical products. The handrail was also restored so as to leave it as it was originally.
Everything combined gives great historical value to the building.

To you, a building needs to be integrated into its environment. If you don’t achieve a symbiosis between the external atmosphere and the one created indoors, there is a dissonance and you loose the concrete essence of what you are building.

Which is your favourite space and why? The restaurant on the ground floor. We have united accommodation and restaurant, and they work really well together. In the restaurant that connection with the outdoor space can be truly appreciated while you converse or enjoy your meal. The bar is also one of my favourite spaces with its incredible zenith lighting.

INTERIOR DESIGN OF THE ROOMS

My favourite place is the restaurant, its connection indoors-outdoors. I like to see people stroll, and the fact they can see me if they want to.

And finally the room… You look for the surprise, the inicial excitement that the atmosphere causes. That is the level of satisfaction. We have to make sure that person comes back to the hotel, to suggest an experience. In the room, in such a small space, you create different scenarios which have no physical separation, but they do have it in your mind. That is why we need to treat them spatially, superficially and emotionally. The experience is cumulative.

Can emotions and profitability go hand in hand? That is the only way for a hotel to work. We generate amazing feelings and atmospheres, but if it is not profitable, it is a failure. It is really important to see the heart of the hotel from the very beginning: the installations, the conservation, the durability.

Define this building. It is a building that behaves perfectly; simple and clean. I like how it works and how well people flows are distributed.
