Located in a very privileged enclave, adjacent to the Boqueria market and a few steps away from Las Ramblas. This is the story of a project in which there were many challenges, both architectural and planning. Its construction was a significant improvement for the surrounding area.
From the very beginning, the aim of this project was to maximise the property’s surface area and overcome the narrowness of Morera street, where we could see the large part of the façade. In order to do that, a Urban Improvement Plan was processed. Thanks to that, part of the land was relinquished to widen Morera street. The building space was enlarged and we could build an additional floor.
And from Morera street to Petxina street. We opened the back part of the building, which was facing Petxina street, to give the hotel a third façade. When this street is completely open, it will be an access to Las Ramblas, which will be really advantageous for the area. Currently there is only one building left blocking the street, and it belongs to the city hall. Nevertheless, with our intervention we have moved on towards this goal.
Space, space, space. That was the obsession of our architect, Carlos Ferrán. He surprised us with a brilliant proposal: reducing the block’s central courtyard to the minimum required and take part of that space to the façade. We narrowed the Hospital’s street façade and won some space between the buildings. We had a hotel whose space could not anymore harnessed. All this work, together with the fact it was a newly-built property, makes it a fully efficient hotel.
Environment and interior space. Citizens of Barcelona and costumers of the hotel. Everyone has won thanks to this complex and highly successful project.
